The magnet programs not only offer required academic courses but also a variety of life-enriching specialty classes.

• The Montessori Magnet School at Austin Elementary uses a unique, individually structured curriculum. Specially trained teachers promote the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of students in a carefully prepared, multi-age learning environment. This program is designed to develop self-motivated, independent learners. The ability to demonstrate literacy in more than one language has become a priority in our society. The Elementary Magnet School at Cameron offers English, Spanish, French and German to all students. Cameron's goal is that each kindergarten student entering the program will become bi-literate and possess a strong foundation in a third language by the time they complete sixth grade.
• The Hays Magnet Academy provides a rigorous academic curriculum that helps prepare its students for the 21st century global economy. The focus is academic excellence for all students with an emphasis on college readiness. Hays' students utilize math and science labs that offer exciting and innovative strategies to allow hands-on, concrete learning of abstract concepts. The goal at Hays Magnet is to produce students who love learning at a rigorous level and who are ready for the challenges that await them.
• Students at Gale Pond/Alamo Elementary have the opportunity to reach high academic goals while participating in a year-round educational calendar. Students attend the same number of instructional days as students in the traditional calendar but may elect to attend six weeks of intersession instruction where they can participate in a variety of academic and innovative learning activities.
• The visual and performing arts program at the Elementary Magnet School at Milam provides students with a comprehensive study in the visual arts, dance, drama, choral and instructional music in order to enhance an academic program that stresses excellence.
• Excellence in academic achievement, discipline, attendance and citizenship forms the foundation of the Elementary Magnet School at Reagan. High expectations coupled with a strong support system and rigorous subject matter form the core of the learning process. This program is designed for students who work best in a structured environment.
• The Elementary Magnet School at Travis gives students the opportunity to explore and enhance all academic and enrichment areas. Laboratory-centered inquiry and discovery methods are used in an in-depth study of math, science, and communications. Unique features of the communications component are the student-operated radio and television studios and the piano lab.
• The technology and multiple intelligence magnet program at Zavala challenges students to acquire and perform essential life skills. The program also reinforces basic academic skills through extensive research and presentation projects. The Kid Tracs stations provide exemplary educational resources and create an exciting and engaging environment for students to become lifelong learners in a digital world.
Along with the regular curriculum, extended-day magnet students participate in after-school programs that strengthen and enrich their elementary school experiences. Laboratory education activities, arts and crafts, and tutoring are offered during the extended period. Blackshear and Ireland Elementary Schools offer the extended day magnet programs.
