Junior Leadership Odessa is a program sponsored by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce designed to expose high school juniors to Odessa’s resources and the many opportunities available in our community. Like the adult Leadership Odessa program, Junior Leadership Odessa promotes awareness of Odessa’s history, resources and potential and is designed to motivate and develop Odessa’s future leaders. It also introduces high school juniors to community leaders of business and government in Odessa.
Junior Leadership Odessa is coordinated, planned, and led by the current Leadership Odessa class with assistance from the Leadership Odessa Alumni. The program is an abbreviated version of the adult Leadership program, and is open to 40 area high school juniors. The course is comprised of a retreat and five weekly sessions, held mid-January through late February, and culminating in a graduation ceremony. The weekly sessions are generally held on Monday nights from 5:30 - 9:00 p.m. with occasional exceptions.
The goal of this program is to acquaint the participants with all aspects of the Odessa community and encourage them to become actively involved in its future. The program is fully underwritten by local businesses and concerned individuals who sponsor students either through cash or food donations.
Junior Leadership is vital to high school students because it helps them develop a clear vision of what a leader is and the possibilities that lie within each of them. And the Odessa Chamber hopes they will return after college to make Odessa their home and be leaders for our community.
